Loading bar

I had multiple problems with it, but I eventuall got it to work. The only problem is that there isn't anything to load so it loads super fast. It loads from like 0 to 100% in like 2.345 seconds.

11/09/09 - 11/13/09

This Week we worked on our games, and learned that you can't have violent/educational video games. Personally I think more people would play educational games if they were actually fun. I myself would play educational games, if they were actually fun. Most educational games are lame and I hate them, for the simple fact that they aern't any fun.

Weekly Review

1. Our game topic is civics related, and having to deal with minigames, and a series of questions.
2. Our game has civics questions, that helps players learn all about there amendments.
3.Our game starts out with a basic menu that includes “Campaign” and “How to Play”. If you click “Campaign” it takes you to the first level, which has a civics related question on it. After you have successfully completed the question, you get a mini game! This mini game is almost completely random, but it meets its criteria by having civics in the game. For example one of the mini games says “use your second amendment right to get through this level”. You have to shoot the gun in order to get through the level, and if not you are stuck at the level until you pass it, or give up. In the event that you get a question wrong, you are taken to the “Game over” screen, and a “dun dun dun” plays. From this screen you can retry the game, and if you click the button it makes an evil laugh. If you win the game you get knowledge! Cause knowledge is power!
4.Many people do not know all of the amendments, which is really sad (myself included). So our game aims to change that by using the amendments to get through the game, but your learning at the same time! In order to survive through “Civic Duty” you must learn the amendments to help get through the game, or you will DIE! Just kidding, but you will not be able to advance in our game without learning some civics in the process.
5.It fits into the civics knowledge frame work, by using the amendments.
6.It teaches about the amendments, which if you obey them you are a good citizen.

Thoughts about the civics game

I found it a little difficult to think of a good topic for my civics game, but eventually after a few tries we've thought of a great game idea. Throughout my learning experience I've had alot of fun and I can't wait to complete this project.

Animation

1. The simple of being able to make pictures move is amazing!
2. Yes video games would not be the same without animations, there actually wouldn't be any games of the sorts without animations.

10/12/09-10/16/09

This week we learned about navigation through our flash games. It was complicated at first but with some trial and errors methods I got my buttons working. And we also had to play some civics games, and they had some bugs. For example I kept getting the newspaper screen of death, where a newspaper would come up in a different language and it wouldn't go away. And the other game didn't capture my interest.
Here is my video on my civics topic: The second amendment.

My Civic game

1.My game is a FPS that has civics questions in it. The civics questions are questions about the law, mostly amendments. For example For our first question we used is the 6th amendment.
2.Players will have to answer the questions corretly if they want to live, but if you die then you will have to start over. Thus you will have to learn the material in order to survive.
3.Our game is called Civic Duty: 53,595 infected lawyers, which has to do with the Law so you must learn some laws if you wish to survive the zombie apocalypse. It teaches you the laws you must follow in order to be a good upstanding citizen.

"your games" post

Team name - Aluminum Fighters
Members- Alex Bennett, Ethan Langer
Subject- A FP Zombie Shooter (with some civics)
3 Facts- Well I did not know that there was 27 Amendments, I thought there was 26.
I also did not know that you could repeal an amendment like the 21st amendment. I did not know that you could add any more Amendments to the bill of rights, even though it would take a while.

Basic Steps of Flash

I found that the tools and the time line are the most important things, becasue with out them you couldn't accomplish much. I also find the shotcut keys to be very helpful, they help me navigate through flash with ease such as F9 which brings up the "actionscript" window, or F8 which brings up the "convert to symbol" box. Other than a few broken window pictures, I think this tutorial is very helpful to help me understanding flash.

Flash CS3 code problems

This week we have experienced several difficulties mostly involving the code. I would copy the code and follow step by step instructions from the wiki website, yet it always had multiple compilation errors! It makes me want to scream, plus we are using outdated software, we have CS3 when we could be usuing CS4. Sad face indeed. :(

Civic game that I found

The name of the game is Statetris.
http://www.flashgame6.com/14946/statetris
Its really hard to play, but you will learn something. It's kinda like tetris, but with countries. You have to put the countries in the right spot as quick as you can to win.

Civics Games

American Symbols Game: Its a simple game, but you will learn something.
Bill of Rights Match Game:This game is ok the first play thorough, but it never resets. The answers are 4 yes's and 2 no's, in that order.
Geography America:This game will help you learn the states, but that stupid guy on the airplane is super annoying!!!

Redistricting Game: This game is kind of confusing and I didnt like it.
Branches of Government: This game is lame, and I didn't learn anything.
There Should Be a Law: It's kinda confusing, and it's very narrow minded.

Pick 12: This game has tons of flaws, it wouldn't even let me pick anything!
Play the News:I hated this game, because it asked me to make an account, and its not even any fun.
Bump the Birds: Poor game play, it is very exciting.

These games are all lame. The only way educational games are fun, is if you trick people into learning without them being aware.

Games I liked (hated)

I played a vast majority of the games on the wiki site, and while I didn't like most of them, the one I did prefer was "the cost of life". But it was still lame. The reasons these games are lame is because they are social issue games. Generally when you try to combine education with games, it usually results in a lame game. (Much like these games.) Don't get me wrong I think it’s a great idea, but in this case it doesn't work. Also “Darfur is dying" is very unrealistic the children can outrun trucks. I don't think a ten year old boy, regardless of his race, could out run a truck. Both of these games are social issue games. (Life Simulation). But it was fun outrunning trucks with little kids hah.

The hardest thing to do in this assignment

I found the hardest thing to do, during this assignment, was to upload a picture to the header. Every time I tried to upload a picture it wouldn’t work right, then it was never the right size. First it was too big, then it was too small, and then it took up half of the page and just looked dumb. But in the end I beat it and resized it to fit snuggly in the header box.
